Massey University (Albany Campus)

The Institute of Information and Mathematical Sciences at Massey University’s  Albany Camous  offers a range of majors within the Bachelor of Information Sciences Degree.  The Information Technology and Computer Science discipline groups provide students with a wide range of core competencies in such areas programming, networks, databases and mobile technologies. In addition, courses that develop a management perspective on ICT such as systems analysis and design, software management and human computer interaction are also offered.

While some students elect to progress through to the postgraduate programme, many others choose to move directly into the workforce. Massey graduates are employed many different role in industry including ICT consultancy, IT architecture, security, programming and web development.

The Institute is actively engaged in an applied ICT research programme working with industry and support the campus-based E-Centre.

University of Otago

At the University of Otago, students enrolled in courses relevant to the ICT industry are linked/ domiciled in the departments of Information Science (School of Business) or Computer Science (School of Science).  Our students graduate with the necessary skills, knowledge and initiative to excel in any ICT vocation, whether in New Zealand or overseas.

The Information Science Department is concerned with the technologies in which all kinds of information is stored, accessed, processed, and used throughout today’s society.  The Department is actively engaged in leading-edge research activities spreading across many layers of ICT convergence, which includes: software engineering, distributed information systems, web intelligence, augmented reality, spatial information and GIS, social networking, Web 2.0, telecommunications and networking, virtual worlds, and adaptive business intelligence.

The Computer Science Department teaches a challenging program of papers for those who wish to become computer professionals. The department prides itself in its research, which extends to the areas of artificial intelligence, robotics and neural networks, graphics, vision and image processing, databases including distributed databases, spatial databases and data-mining, distributed operating systems, computer networks, and combinatorial algorithms.

NZ School of Education

NZSE is an ICT skills training organisation with over 450 students. NZSE  which specializes in IT theory and practical training in support areas including; building, upgrading and troubleshooting  basic personal computer hardware and operating systems and basic network administration. Students graduate with a Certificate or Diploma in Computing.

Students in the internship programme are work ready for roles such as;

  • Help Desk/Contact Centre
  • Workstation/Network/Infrastructure support
  • Infrastructure roll out
  • User interface, usability and performance testing
