Accelerating Auckland addresses the need to ensure Auckland's growth as a region is unconstrained by the availability of Aucklanders with ICT skills by:

• Better aligning the skill needs of industry with tertiary programmes
• Promoting ICT programmes & careers with students
• Fostering collaboration between Industry & Tertiaries
• Developing & implementing strategies to increase Maori & Pacific participation & completion in tertiary study

Accelerating Auckland has received catalyst funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and other central government sources, economic development agencies and the private sector to develop a range of initiatives to address these priorities.

University of Auckland - ICT Innovative Academy

The ICT Innovation Academy is an "Academy" in the Greek sense of the word, bringing together ICT students, academics and industry practitioners. High-performing and highly motivated students are selected to work in small groups on (mainly) industry-sponsored short-term projects. Mentoring/coaching is provided by industry practitioners and academics of student groups. Projects are professionally project-managed by an experienced industry project manager based in the Academy. All academy

members are expected to attend and contribute to a stream of seminars on entrepreneurship, management, marketing, technology and business context for ICT development.
